Village Twins Comes to Completion in Style
We just finished up the final home in Chevy Chase and she's a keeper. Landscapers where there all week along with the stagers and cleaning crew. It's an OPaL classic with Dutch Colonial roof, Hardie cedar-shake and lap siding and that awesome stair tower on the right front of the home.
Hopefully the weather is great this Sunday for the first open house.

Naylor Court Stables, STICKING WITH A CLASSIC & TURNING UP THE VOLUME
Not such a great pic, however, the cabinets have a glassy, white finish and the edges are stainless steel.....SUPER COOL. Seems to me every urban builder is doing the espresso flat cabinets with some ugly tile backsplash.....we are sticking with a classic and turning up the volume!! Soon to follow:: Monogram commercial appliances, classic subway tile backsplash, uber cool Carrera counters, black hardwoods and Ralph Lauren wall paper!!! HOT, HOT HOT!

Naylor Court Stables is Starting to Look Like an OPaL Home
Though smaller in scale, the beamed ceiling and columns are taking on our OPaL aesthetic. Plus, how about those black window sashes from the inside? Nice, right?!
Love, love the trimmed out columns and ceiling. |
The gals at P Four love floor to ceiling trim details....like this grid pattern in the rec-room. Will look AMAZE once it's all painted trim-white in semi-gloss. |

Those DC Blogs Love Them Some Stables
Yet another DC real estate blogger has caught up with The Stables.....my favorite part of their blog: 'my money is on them being sold before completion - great neighborhood, location and alley vibe in a new construction.' Plus: 2 car parking, 2600 square feet and they are uber, uber cool!

Sean Ruppert in Professional Builder Magazine
A few months ago I was interviewed by a very friendly lady who had seen some of the awards we had won at Cabin John Crossing and thought we'd make a great addition to an article she was putting together for Professional Builder magazine. Here are the results.....even though I'm burried on page 3. (smile)

Lover of the Written Word
I think we have one of the best copy writers in the country. Her name is Tierney and she is also a cartomancer. If you've never heard of this, it means she reads Tarot Cards, but even better, every Friday on Facebook she posts something called: Friday Night Confessions. She will get 75-100 comments with people confessing their wayward ways of the previous week. It's a riot and I look forward to it each week.
I digress. Tierney just sent me the final draft of the copy we will be using in our Custom Home brochure, check it out::
Homes With a Singular
Perspective—Yours.
There is a distinctive feeling to
something created just for you. It's as if it were an extension of your body
and soul, flowing as you flow, anticipating your every move and need. And when
this creation is your home, it makes living in sync with your family’s
authentic nature an everyday pleasure.
A small number of homeowners who share the OPaL
aesthetic can now access the impeccable talents of our architecture,
contracting and building teams to create the one home that embodies everything
on their wish list. These are not homes adapted from our current designs. They
are craftsman-quality homes birthed specifically for your site and from your
vision to accommodate your every habit, move, desire and breath.
In more ways than one, there will never be another
home quite like yours—a couture experience to fit every aspect of your life.
OPaL only accepts a very small handful of these commissions each year. Make
yours one of those homes.
Makes you want to buy an OPaL Custom Home.

HUGE WEEK FOR OPaL:: Panda, Canal, Baby Shower & Wood!
Let me explain:: We are expecting the delivery of our Panda Jockey from Cleveland anytime today. We also just received the final rendering for Canal Mews so now they can finish the site I.D. sign and web site. Additionally, we are prepping the model home for a HUGE baby shower this Sunday. And the lumber should drop (that's a builder term, lumber drop) at The Stables, where we could be under roof in 2 weeks!!

Just When You Thought The Palisades Couldn't Get Any Cooler:: Canal Mews Comes Along
Just incase you never knew, when a developer has a perspective rendering done (one in which the homes are drawn from an angle other than straight on) the artist must first make an wire frame of the structure to ensure the homes will be seen from the angle the developer desires. Years ago they actually made the model from wire but of course today they are drawn on computer.
This is the perspective for OPaL's ever-so-cool 'Coastal Greystones' we will be building in the Palisades area of DC this summer. Once approved the artist will add color to the homes, landscaping and a blue sky. Fun stuff.

OPaL's New Office and Model are Just About Complete.....
Moved into our new office and model home a few weeks ago and it is just amazing. So many people contributed to this beautiful home, none more that the creative minds at GPS Designs and P Four Interiors.
This home will take OPaL to unforeseen places. I will publish professional photos in a month or two, just waiting for some more art to be delivered and of pool furniture. :-)

OPaL Beach House for Summer 2013 with the Volume Turned Up
The plans for the Joe P. beach house in Rehoboth are almost complete. With that classic beach elevation, center courtyard for pool and gazebo plus wide open interior spaces, beamed ceilings and that intangible OPaL feeling.....this will be quite the gathering place for friends and family, OPaL style.

GIDDY UP!
GOING WITH THE JOCKEY, LIKE THERE WAS ANY DOUBT |
Using the colors from our OPaL Custom Home logo collage, the artists have created a clever pattern for the silks of the Panda Jockey. We also changed the number to 13, our lucky number. |

PandaMania Comes to OPaL & Cabin John 9 Years Later
A few months ago I became obsessed with finding the fabricator of the Elephants and Donkeys that the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities had designed for their 2002 Party Animals project. The exhibition had 100 of the animals painted by local artists and placed though-out the city.
After chasing down three incorrect fabricators, I 'Nancy Drew-ed' the former President of the Commission who emailed me the correct company in St. Paul, MN. Come to find out the original Donkeys and Elephants are held under a copyright. HOWEVER, they have a single Panda remaining from PandaMania (not under copyright) the 2004 exhibition with 150 Pandas places throughout our Nation's Capital. EVEN BETTER than the Party Animals!

I asked them to create two designs for us to chose from: a Leprechaun and a Jockey. |
